Overview the collected data across languages and laboratory settings.
Between September 2019 and March 2020, the data were collected from the registered teams’ affiliations. All the teams followed the data collection protocol. We collected the participants’ gender and age on a splited Qualtrics form. Total 2340 participants (1104 females; averagely 21.46 years old) completed the study. This data collection suspended at March 2020 because of the global pandemic outbreak.
21 teams completed the data collection or reached the minimal sample size before the global pandemic outbreak. Across the site data, 2014 participants finished sentence-picture verification task and passed the preregistered exclusion criterion (accuracy percentile > 70%); 2007 participants finished picture-picture verification task. Some PP data files were successfully imported after I decreased the criterion of file size. 7 participants’ data files were lost because the experimenters did not upload the files or submitted the wrong files.
Between January 2021 and June 2021, the data collection resumed after we migrated the in-site scripts to JATOS website. The rest of teams distributed the corresponding links to their participants. Total 1403 participants (926 females; averagely 23.75 years old) completed the study in each site.
The osweb teams collected the data from the languages as following: Arabic, Brazilian Portuguese, English, German, Norwegian, Portuguese, Serbian, Traditional Chinese, Turkish. Across the osweb data, 1337 participants finished sentence-picture verification task and passed the preregistered exclusion criterion (accuracy percentile > 70%); 1337 participants finished picture-picture verification task. We excluded 1 participant from USA_033
because this participant did not complete the picture-picture verification.
According to our preregistered plan, each laboratory has to collect at least 50 participants. Some laboratories did not reach the minimal criterion because of the following reasons: (1)their works were interrupted by the pandemic situation; (2)the participants performed worse through the online study; (3) the laboratories allocated the seats for the foreign participants; (4) A language (e.g., Serbian) has a various of scripts.
At the end of data collection, 50 laboratories participated in this project. 13 laboratories collected the minimal samples. Finally we collected the data from 18 languages.
